Iran attacked a Chinese tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, China’s Foreign Ministry confirms
For the first time since the start of hostilities, a Chinese tanker has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
The words “China Owner & Crew” were written on the vessel. After the strike, a fire broke out on deck.
China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the attack and said there were no casualties. The ministry noted that the ship sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands, but Chinese sailors are on board.
Beijing expressed concern over the consequences of the conflict and called on all sides to show restraint.
It is not officially known who carried out the strike, but Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had earlier reported hitting a tanker in the strait.
